I’ve had my eye on these cute little cupcakes for a long time now and was needing an opportunity to break out the baking kit. Call them the angry birds cupcakes or Oreo owls – they sure are a great little treat. But they are almost too cute to eat!
There was no better time than with a birthday of course! These little cupcake treats were a great delight and fun to bake. Happy Birthday Saranya!
These little Oreo owl babies are quite easy to bake, but the most challenging part would be constructing the faces of the birds and trying to resist eating the ‘eyes’ and ‘beaks’ before completing the assembly.

For this mean feat, take your basic cake mixture (vanilla, butter or chocolate – it doesn’t really matter which flavour) and bake it in cupcake moulds.
For the owls, I used mini Oreos, Smarties, mini M&M’s and dark chocolate for the icing.
To assemble the faces of these owls, you’ll have to carefully open the Oreos and try to keep the cream on one side (this can get quite messy). With the remaining blank sides, break half of these in two for the bushy eyebrows. Then melt some dark chocolate in the microwave for the icing and spread it on the cupcakes. I prefer to let the icing harden completely before assembling the features of the face, as they have a tendency to slide off. Once it has hardened, dab a little of the melted chocolate onto the back of the Oreo halves with the cream sides up and add a mini M&M in the centre for the pupils and position on the cupcakes. Add the eyebrows in the same manner. The Smarties topped off the face as a the beak: dip half a Smartie into the melted chocolate and place it vertically just below the eyes. Play around with the position of the eyes and eyebrows to add personality to each owl!
There you have it, Oreo owls!
Enjoy!
